05/10/21 Leader after Leader

READING: 2 Samuel 4-7, Luke 22:47-23:5

God’s plan is amazing, actually, as He leads His people. From His creation of Adam to His calling of Abraham to His raising up kings to His appointing New Testament apostles and missionaries to His calling out people today to guide others to Him, God always has a leader. Those leaders haven’t been perfect, but God alone gets the glory when He uses imperfect people to accomplish His will.

Today’s Old Testament reading reminds me again that God particularly and clearly raised up David to be the king:

  • “And the Lord said to you, ‘You will shepherd My people Israel, and you will be a leader over Israel.’” (2 Sam 5:2)
  • “David became greater and greater, for the Lord God of armies was with him.” (2 Sam 5:10)
  • “And David realized that the Lord had appointed him as king over Israel, and that He had exalted his kingdom for the sake of His people Israel.” (2 Sam 5:12)

Only David was to be the king at that point. God had planned nothing else, and no one else would have sufficed for the role. As I think this morning about the church I serve as interim pastor, it’s comforting and exciting to know that God has precisely the right man He will reveal to us at exactly the right time to lead into the future. He always does.

PRAYER: “God, I praise You for Your plan to raise up leaders.”

DAILY ACTION STEP:  Would you please use today’s action step to pray for the church I lead—Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church in Wake Forest, NC? And, would you pray for me that I will lead however God requires?

TOMORROW’S READING:  2 Samuel 8-11, Luke 23:6-43
