READING: 1 Kings 10-11, John 5:30-6:15
I assume it would have been tempting for Jesus when the people wanted to make Him their king—even if by force. The thousands had gathered around Him, received their loaves and fish from Him, and had begun to recognize the power of His signs. They’d been waiting for this Deliverer to come, and now He stood before them.
Such was not His plan, however. He knew the Father’s will for Him, and no offer of popularity and political power would deter Him from that task. So, rather than hang around people who misunderstood His kingdom, He withdrew from them to pray; that is, he chose to spend time with the Father. He kept His eyes focused on what mattered.
We are wise to do the same. When the world offers us something less than what God offers, it’s good for us to get away and pray.
PRAYER: “Lord, don’t let me miss when my heart’s leaning toward the temporary today.”
DAILY ACTION STEP: Whenever you need to today, get away and spend time with the Father.
