READING: 1 Chronicles 8-9, John 17
Jesus’ work was coming to a close as He made His way toward a cross. He had been obedient all along the way, tempted as we are yet without sin (Heb 4:15); He would continue to be obedient even unto the cross, and He would share again the glory with the Father. Thus, He could say, “I have glorified you on the earth by completing the work you gave me to do” (John 17:4).
Completing the work God has given us to do – that ought to be our goal. His calling might include hardship and pain, but still we must run the race to the end. It may take us to the ends of the earth where few people know we’re there, yet we must follow all the way. Temptations may be many along the way. Potential distractions may abound. The enemy will attack with ferocity at times. Our life may be long, or it may be unexpectedly short—but our responsibility is to follow Him to the end. We must make the commitment today to finish well, regardless of how long God allows us to live. It is today’s obedience that leads to tomorrow’s victory.
My prayer today is that I will glorify the Lord by following Him to the end. I pray I’ll finish His work well.
PRAYER: “God, I want to glorify You by completing whatever work You give me to do.”
DAILY ACTION STEP: Finish today well in preparation for tomorrow.
