READING: Psalms 75-78, Romans 15:14-33
To go where the gospel has never been. . . to be the first person to name “Christ” among a people group. . . . to be a vessel God uses to reach the first person in that group . . . . . what an amazing privilege! I can only imagine what it must be like when someone in an unreached people group comes to faith after years of missions work around him or her.
The apostle Paul had this call on his life, to “preach the gospel where Christ has not been named, so that I will not build on someone else’s foundation” (Rom 15:20). He was not interested in simply building on the work of others; he was more interested in going where the gospel had not been. The Roman Empire needed to hear the gospel, and that would happen as Paul planted new churches who reproduced themselves.
The gracious love of God overwhelmed him. Lostness burdened him. Love compelled him to go. Faith kept him going. Our personal calling may not be to go to the nations (though it could be for some of my readers today), but obedience like Paul’s is not optional for any of us.
PRAYER: “Lord, grant me obedience and faith, wherever You call me.”
