READING: Psalms 82-86, 1 Corinthians 1
As COVID started many months ago, I was frustrated when our church plant could not meet together. We had been meeting in a local school, and the school district closed its doors to outside groups. To be honest, though, my frustration was probably more with the extra work to do church online as it was with missing the fellowship of believers.
Since then, though, I’ve realized even more the power of God’s people meeting together. There’s nothing quite like singing God’s praises with His people, and a friendly “hello” from a brother or sister in Christ is more touching than a text or an email from a distance. The joy of gathering with other believers is hard to find in any other way.
Now, I understand even more why the psalmist could write of the joy of heading to Jerusalem to worship. He experienced great happiness with others who praised God together, and he longed for the courts of the Lord. The pilgrimage to the Temple was itself joyous as the people prepared to worship the God of Armies. May we also be filled with such joy!
PRAYER: “Happy is the person who trusts in You, Lord. Help me to be one of those persons.”
DAILY ACTION STEP: Spend the next few days meditating on the gift of worshiping with other believers this weekend. Much of the world has no such blessing.
TOMORROW’S READING: Psalms 87-90, 1 Corinthians 2-3
