09/10/21 Keeping Our Way Pure

READING: Psalm 119:1-80, 1 Corinthians 11:17-12:11

I often work with young men who are dealing with pornography. In some cases, their sin has been long a part of their lives. It’s entrenched in who they are, and freedom feels far away. By the time they come to me, they’re often desperate.

My first response is to ask them about their time in the Word, and here’s why: the Bible is clear about what a young man must do to be pure: “How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping your word” (Psa 119:9).  If we want to not sin against God, we need to seek Him with all our heart, live according to His commands, and treasure his Word in our soul. When we long for God more than anything, nothing else gains power over us.

When we regularly turn to the Word, we begin to break the enemy’s stronghold over our lives. We rejoice in His ways and delight in His statutes; that is, our joy in the eternal weakens the hold of the temporary on our lives. The battle is still real – as the enemy certainly doesn’t want us burying our hearts in the Word of God – but victory is ours when we cling to Him.

PRAYER: “God, give me victory today.”

DAILY ACTION STEP:  Make sure you’re seriously seeking God through His Word each day.
