READING: Proverbs 1-3, 2 Corinthians 1:1-2:4
Peer pressure has a unique power that’s sometimes hard to describe. Few of us, particularly in our lost condition, want to be on the outside of the group. Nor do we want to miss out on something the world offers and others get—especially when the world makes sin look so inviting. Enticements from the wrong people can, in fact, lead us down the wrong track if we unplug our brains and don’t check our hearts in the process.
What we need at all times is God’s wisdom, a wisdom that says, “My son, if sinners entice you, don’t be persuaded” (Prov 1:10). What wisdom knows is the fun that looks so exciting now will lead only to anguish tomorrow . . . the temporary pleasure of sin is hardly lasting . . . the promise of gain is ultimately a lie . . . complacency in temptation will bring only trouble. We are foolish indeed to fall into the traps of others who want to entice us into their own sinful plans.
May God grant us His wisdom today to walk only in His paths.
PRAYER: “God, keep me from the traps of sinners today.”
DAILY ACTION STEP: Prayerfully be on your guard today for the enemy’s lures.
