09/23/21 An Abundance of Counselors

READING: Proverbs 10-13, 2 Corinthians 6-7

I admit that I can be a loner, even when making hard decisions. At the same time, I must also admit I’ve sometimes made really dumb decisions I might have avoided had I invited input from others. I’ve been a “show and tell” bad example of what the writer of Proverbs warned about: “Without guidance, a people will fall” (Prov 11:14). The problem, of course, is that I learned my foolish mistakes the hard way.

I trust I’ve learned, though, through my mistakes. I can also now talk about times when I intentionally sought input from trusted friends, heard them (even to the point of changing my direction), and made a wiser decision in the end. We are all wiser people when we lean on combined guidance from others. “In an abundance of counselors,” as the Proverbs writer also says, there really is safety and deliverance.

I thank the Lord for putting me in the Body of Christ and using those members to help direct me. His plan is always, always best.

PRAYER: “Father, halt my steps when I choose to decide alone.”

DAILY ACTION STEP:  If you are facing decisions today, be sure to rely on other counselors.

TOMORROW’S READING:  Proverbs 14-16, 2 Corinthians 8
