10/05/21 Everything

READING: Ecclesiastes 8-12, Galatians 4:8-5:15

It’s an interesting way to close the book of Ecclesiastes. The writer’s conclusion as he analyzed life reminds us that our duty—that is, the duty all of us have—is to fear God and obey His commands. We do that not only because He is God, but also because each of us will answer to Him: “God will judge us for everything we do, including every secret thing, whether good or bad” (Ecc 12:14). Even as believers whose salvation is sealed, we will still stand before Christ. Here’s the way the apostle Paul described it: “For we must all stand before Christ to be judged. We will each receive whatever we deserve for the good or evil we have done in this earthly body” (2 Cor 5:10).

I’m again reminded how important it is that I live a godly life today. I am God’s child, but He will hold me accountable for everything I do. Every thought I think. Every word I speak. Every action I take. Every choice I make. Every way I treat everyone else. Everything public, and everything hidden. I can keep nothing from God, and He knows everything about me.

Everything.

Still He loves me, and still He will hold me accountable. Of these truths we can be certain today, even when life doesn’t always make sense.

PRAYER: “Lord, remind me all day long today that I will answer to You.”

DAILY ACTION STEP:  If you are holding secrets, be honest with God. He already knows.

TOMORROW’S READING: Song 1-8, Galatians 5:16-6:18
