READING: Ezekiel 26-28, 1 Peter 2
How blessed we are as the people of God! Peter’s words in today’s New Testament reading, in fact, include numerous descriptions of who we are in Christ: “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his possession” (1 Pet 2:9). These piled up phrases echo with God’s gracious calling to us as His children. We are hardly worthy, but He has chosen and called us anyway. He has given us the privilege of representing Him to the peoples of the world. He has made us holy. By His choice, we are His people. Falling at His feet in gratitude ought to be our response.
Further, God calls us for a specific purpose: “so that you may proclaim the praises of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light” (1 Pet 2:9). It is our responsibility to speak of His majesty, His grace, the salvation He has granted us. Indeed, it seems to me that proclaiming His praises should be the natural response to our better understanding our identity in Christ. When we meditate on who He is and what He has done for us in Christ—that is, He brought us out of darkness into His light—it should be that we cannot help but proclaim His goodness.
PRAYER: “God, thank You for making me Your child.”
DAILY ACTION STEP: Consider who you are in Christ—and then tell somebody about Him today.
