12/31/21 The End that Never Ends

READING: Malachi 1-4, Revelation 22

We have come once again to the end of a year of Bible reading. If you have read with us through this year, I thank you for your diligence. I am honored by your willingness to walk together with me through the Word in 2021, and I hope you’ll continue reading with us in 2022. This next year, I am reading through the ONE YEAR CHRONOLOGICAL BIBLE (Tyndale)—which will, unlike this past year, include readings on the weekend.

With today’s reading, we also come to the end of the Bible . . . but, the end of the Bible leads us into eternity. The final chapter of Revelation begins with a continued description of the new Jerusalem (Rev 22:1-5)—likely a picture suggesting a renewed Eden—that no human image can fully convey. In this city, the curse of sin and death will be broken. God’s throne will be there. The Lord God will be the light. His followers—that is, His people, His possession—will both serve Him and reign in victory. The life God has given them will be forever.

In the craziness of these days, I look forward to heaven even more. How grateful I am that Christ is “the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End” (Rev 22:13)!  He created all things and holds all things together – and, He loves you and me. He loves us so much, in fact, that He made it possible through His death for us to be His children. He gives us living water without end.

Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!

PRAYER: “God, I’m deeply grateful for the promise of eternal life and victory. .”

DAILY ACTION STEP: Thank God for His Word and His promises.

TOMORROW’S READING: Genesis 1:1-3:24
