01/15/22 God with Us

READING: Genesis 40:1-23, Genesis 35:28-29, Genesis 41:1-57

It was quite a statement from Pharaoh. Joseph had interpreted Pharoah’s dreams, and Pharaoh was pleased with the plan Joseph proposed for what was about to happen. Indeed, Pharaoh said of Joseph, “Can we find anyone else like this man so obviously filled with the spirit of God?” (Gen 41:38). Pharaoh likely did not understand about the Holy Spirit, but his words indicated he knew God was helping Joseph. Joseph had repeatedly said that God was the one giving him insights, and Pharaoh recognized that God was indeed with him.

The situation in today’s reading was an unusual one, but Pharaoh’s words nevertheless lead me to ask, “I know God is with me. Do others (including non-believers) so recognize it, too, that they affirm His presence? Do I exhibit the fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:22-23)? Do I show the joy that believers ought to have? Do I walk in peace even when I face things I don’t understand? Do I have wisdom that others would recognize as godly?”

Would others say of me, “God is obviously with him?” I pray my life gives that evidence today.

PERSONAL REFLECTION: What do you think others would say about you? Would they see the Spirit in you?

TODAY’S PRAYER: “God, work through me in such a way that others recognize Your presence.”

TOMORROW’S READING: Genesis 42:1-45:15
