02/13/22 Whatever God Commands

READING: Exodus 37:1-39:31

We have seen words similar to these earlier in the book of Exodus: “just as the Lord had commanded Moses.” In today’s reading, though, the repetition is again unmistakable. Seven times, in fact, we read this phrase in today’s text (with more to follow in tomorrow’s reading). The writer clearly wanted the readers to know the significance of the tabernacle and the priestly garments, and he emphasized the necessity of uncompromised obedience to the Lord’s commands—no matter how small or large the detail was. From the embroidery on priestly garments to the structure of the tabernacle, disobedience in any of these tasks was not an option. At least for this time, the people obeyed. As we will see tomorrow, Moses then blessed them in turn.

There’s just something special about the times when people you lead obey the Lord fully. It’s easy for us, though, to focus on obedience in the “big things” of life while not sweating so much the little things—as if the smallest details are somehow less significant to God. If you want to be a blessing to your spiritual leaders on this Lord’s day—and to receive their blessing—choose to do whatever God commands you do. Let others see in your “fruit” nothing less than godly obedience.

PERSONAL REFLECTION: Would your spiritual leaders be pleased with your life today?

TODAY’S PRAYER: “God, I commit myself today to do whatever You require.”

TOMORROW’S READING: Exodus 39:32-40:38, Numbers 9:15-23
