02/15/22 I Will Meet You There

READING: Numbers 7:1-89

God always keeps His Word. His timing may not be ours, and we may not always see exactly what He’s doing, but we can trust Him to do what He says He will do. Today’s reading, the longest chapter in the book of Numbers, reminds us of that truth. The chapter is primarily about the tribes of Israel contributing to the dedication of the tabernacle and to the work of the priests and Levites, but it ends with these words: “When Moses entered the tent of meeting to speak with the Lord, he heard the voice speaking to him from above the mercy seat that was on the ark of the testimony, from between the two cherubim. He spoke to him that way” (Num 7:89).

There’s much to amaze us here. The fact that Moses could meet with the Lord at all was God’s gift to him. He also heard God’s voice speaking to him from between the two angelic beings at either end of the ark of the covenant. That is, the God of creation met with Moses and communicated with him. This is precisely what God had earlier told Moses would happen: “I will meet with you there above the mercy seat, between the two cherubim that are over the ark of the testimony; I will speak with you from there about all that I command you regarding the Israelites” (Exo 25:22). God fulfilled His own word.

Our God wants us to know Him. He makes Himself known to us through His Word, and He shows us His faithfulness through His commitment to keep that word. We can in turn trust Him with our lives . . . both on the earth and in the world to come.

PERSONAL REFLECTION: How do you perceive that God is speaking to you?

TODAY’S PRAYER: “God, I praise You for keeping Your Word. You are trustworthy. You are good.”

TOMORROW’S READING: Numbers 8:1-9:14, Leviticus 1:1-3:17
