I Will be Your God
Leviticus 25:24-26:46
Today’s one of those days when the Word just brings pleasure to my soul—which might seem strange because today’s reading talks about blessings and judgments. But, these are the words that remind me of (1) the importance of absolute obedience to God (“If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands . . .”—Lev 26:3), and (2) the relationship God offers to us:
“I will live among you, and I will not despise you. I will walk among you; I will be your God, and you will be my people.” (Lev 26:11-12)
As I think about our lives, it’s all quite amazing, actually. God lives in us. He does not despise us. He walks among us. He is our God. We are His people. God not only created us, but He is also intimately involved with His creation. The depth, breadth, and height of that relationship are beyond our capacity to understand—but it’s not beyond our capacity to experience it, simply because God first came to us. He initiates this relationship that is so special.
Then, I also read today that He doesn’t forget His covenant and commitments to His people even when they disobey. He judges, but He still loves. He is still the God of His people.
PERSONAL REFLECTION: How long has it been since you have meditated on God’s willingness to be in relationship with you?
TODAY’S PRAYER: “God, thank You. Thank You for walking with us.”
TOMORROW’S READING: Leviticus 27:1-34, Numbers 1:1-54
