READING: Joshua 19:49-21:45, 1 Chronicles 6:54-81
I love it when you read the Word and your heart jumps out of your chest with joy. Today is one of those days for me.
The book of Joshua is my favorite book in the Old Testament, so I have studied it many times. Still, though, sometimes passages you’ve read many times before are especially powerful on a given day. The Word just brings life to our heart as we read it again. To illustrate, the summary of God’s faithfulness to His people in Joshua 21 simple reverberates with His steadfast love and sovereign hand:
- “So the Lord gave to Israel all the land he had sworn to give their ancestors.” (Josh 21:43)
- “And the Lord gave them rest on every side, just as he had solemnly promised their ancestors.” (Josh 21:44)
- “Not a single one of all the good promises the Lord had given to the family of Israel was left unfulfilled; everything he had spoken came true.” (Josh 21:45)
The people still had work to do as they settled the land, but God had been – as He always is – fully faithful to keep His Word. His promises are not just words; they are assurances from the One who does not lie. So, today, I’m reminded how much I need to trust God and His Word. He always, always does what He says He will do.
PERSONAL REFLECTION: Do you rejoice at God’s faithfulness to His promises?
TODAY’S PRAYER: “Father, You are amazing. Thank You for Your steadfast love.”
TOMORROW’S READING: Joshua 22:1-24:33
