It’s a phrase we need to use more often. In fact, it’s a phrase we need to believe more readily and remember more rapidly.
The Philistines had rallied to attack David and his forces, so David sought the Lord for guidance. God handed the Philistines over to the Israelites in battle, and David’s forces defeated the enemy. His forces, though, were not the reason behind the victory. They may have been instruments in God’s plan, but it was the Lord who gave them victory. That’s why David exclaimed the words you and I need to remember, believe, and use more often: “The Lord did it!” (2 Sam 5:20). It was the Lord who burst forth against His enemies “like a raging flood.”
There are so many times in life when we have reasons to use those words. An answered prayer. A victory over temptation. The salvation of a loved one. Food on our table. Reconciliation after division. A completed sermon. A forgiving heart. A successful surgery. I could continue this list, but the point is that any victory we have—from the moment we wake up until we lie down at night, and then through the night also—comes because God did it.
Only He should get the glory.
PERSONAL REFLECTION: How often do you fail to consider God as the source of your victories?
TODAY’S PRAYER: “Thank You, God, for granting victory. Forgive me when I forget that truth.”
