04/23/22 The Whole World

READING: 2 Samuel 6:12a, 1 Chronicles 15:1-28, 2 Samuel 6:12b-16, 1 Chronicles 15:29, 2 Samuel 6:17-19a, 1 Chronicles 16:1-43, 2 Samuel 6:19b-23

How my heart longs today for the nations to know Jesus! Working first (now many years ago) through a women’s missionary group leader who challenged me as her pastor to be concerned about missions, God has since cast deeply into my soul a desire to help reach the globe for His glory. That’s why these texts from David’s praises in today’s reading capture my attention:

  • “Give thanks to the Lord and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done. Sing to him; yes, sing his praises. Tell everyone about his wonderful deeds.” (1 Chron 16:8-9)
  • “Let the whole earth sing to the Lord! Each day proclaim the good news that he saves. Publish his glorious deeds among the nations. Tell everyone about the amazing things he does.” (1 Chron 16:23-24)
  • “The gods of other nations are mere idols, but the Lord made the heavens!” (1 Chron 16:27)
  • “O nations of the world, recognize the Lord, recognize that the Lord is glorious and strong.” (1 Chron 16:28)
  • “Let the heavens be glad, and the earth rejoice! Tell all the nations, ‘The Lord reigns!’” (1 Chron 16:31)

It is our privilege to play any part we can play in leading our neighbors and the nations to Christ. At a minimum, would you take time today to pray that people all over the world would hear the Word of God proclaimed this weekend?

PERSONAL REFLECTION: What role are you playing in global evangelism and disciplemaking?

TODAY’S PRAYER: “Lord, show me how I might better touch the nations with the gospel.”

TOMORROW’S READING: 2 Samuel 7:1-17, 1 Chronicles 17:1-15, 2 Samuel 7:18-29, 1 Chronicles 17:16-27, 2 Samuel 8:1-14, 1 Chronicles 18:1-13, Psalm 60
