05/07/22 Godly People

READING: Psalms 12-17, 19-21

I cannot adequately put into words how grateful I am for the people of God. Everything I’m privileged to do today comes because of folks who’ve undergirded what I do through their faithful and prayerful support of God’s work.

Though scholars debate this text, David the psalmist also seemed to have this great affection for God’s people: “The godly people in the land are my true heroes! I take pleasure in them!” (Psa 16:3). Variously characterized as  “heroes” (NLT), “excellent ones” (ESV), “majestic ones” (NASB), and “noble ones” (CSB), these folks brought great delight to the psalmist. The saints of God who walked faithfully in His power made a difference in the psalmist’s life—as holy people do in ours today.

This weekend, I’m left with these questions to consider:

  • Do others see me as a godly person?
  • Does my Christian witness bring delight to others?
  • Do I sufficiently honor and thank those believers who bring joy to my life?

As you prepare to gather with your church this weekend, ask God to help you answer these questions as you get ready for worship.

PERSONAL REFLECTION: How do you answer the questions above?

TODAY’S PRAYER: “I thank You, Father, for the godly people in my life.”

TOMORROW’S READING: Psalms 22-26
