05/09/22 The Best Pathway

READING: Psalms 27-32

I cannot recall how many times I’ve moved in directions that weren’t exactly what God intended. Perhaps I thought I was right but didn’t pray enough to seek the Lord’s will. At other times, I may have allowed my own dreams and goals to prevail over what God wanted. In any case, I’m grateful the Lord has always kept His hand on me along the way.

In today’s reading of Psalm 32, the psalmist rejoices in the forgiveness God has granted him. Indeed, the Lord has removed his guilt, and the psalmist can only express gratitude. Then, God speaks these words to him: “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. Do not be like a senseless horse or mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control” (Psa 32:8-9). God in grace and love locks His eyes on us, watches over us, and directs us—but we are sometimes like rebellious animals that push against His leading. That choice makes little sense in light of God’s unfailing love that surrounds us; He alone always knows what is best for us.

I thank God today for His directing grace. Pray with me that none of us will be rebels that God must discipline today.

PERSONAL REFLECTION: Are you ever like a “senseless horse or mule” that needs someone to control it?

TODAY’S PRAYER: “God, thank You for guiding us on the right path.”

TOMORROW’S READING: Psalms 35-38
