READING: Psalms 35-38
As a new teenage believer, I quickly learned the song, “Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.” I soon learned it was a children’s song, and we sang it almost every Sunday as we transported kids via our church’s bus ministry. What I didn’t realize then was just how magnificent God’s love for me is. I’m still learning about it at age 61, but God’s love increasingly amazes me.
Here’s the way the psalmist described this God for us: “Your unfailing love, O Lord, is as vast as the heavens; your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds” (Psa 36:5). Both measurements are immeasurable—an indication of the depth and breadth of God’s care for us. His love and faithfulness carry no boundaries; likewise, His righteousness and justice are like “mighty mountains” and “the ocean depths,” respectively (Psa 36:6). The God of the Bible is a covenant-keeping God who not only is far beyond our comprehension, but He is also the One who shelters us under His wings (Psa 36:7). He made all that has been made, yet He so loves us that He sent His Son to die for us.
Jesus does love us – and this I know. May He use each of us to tell others about God’s unfailing love.
