READING: Psalms 79-82
Our salvation and hope are in the Lord.
Even when we find ourselves in difficult times and cannot seem to help ourselves. Even when it feels like God isn’t hearing us.
While the context of Psalm 80 is not entirely clear, the lament and cry of the people are obvious. They need God’s help as their enemies rally against them. For that reason, they cry out in three-fold refrain for God to restore them, to make His face shine upon them again as a sign of His favor (Psa 80:3, 7, 19)—a reminder of the blessing of Aaron in Numbers 6. They have grieved their situation, but now they long for renewal and revival. In fact, the urgency of their request increases, evidenced by the names they use for God throughout the psalm: “God” (v. 3), “God of Armies” (v. 7), and “Lord, God of Armies” (v. 19). He alone would be their salvation and hope.
That’s still the case for us today, too. He restores us when we cry out to Him.
PERSONAL REFLECTION: Do you need to cry out to the Lord for restoration today?
TODAY’S PRAYER: “God, make Your face shine upon us this day.”
