READING: Proverbs 11:1-13:25
Our world is a chaotic world marked by sin and division. From our leading our own lives to political leaders overseeing nations, we all need wisdom. None of us is so wise, so brilliant in our own ability that we can answer all the questions that come our way. Not one of us is so experienced, so equipped that we can resolve all issues on our own.
No, we all need help. We need the Spirit of God and the Word of God to guide us. Moreover, God puts in our lives others much wiser than we who can help us make right decisions and formulate proper plans. We need that guidance, for “without guidance, a people will fall, but with many counselors there is deliverance” (Prov 11:14). Herein lies the problem, however: we too often make decisions on our own and then seek help from others only after we’ve made a bigger mess. Others then wind up helping us clean up more than lay a proper foundation.
That’s tragic . . . especially because it doesn’t have to be that way. Wise men and women make sure they have a multitude of sage, godly counselors around them.
PERSONAL REFLECTION: Do you have these counselors in your life?
DAILY PRAYER: “God, give me these counselors, and let me be such a counselor to others.”
