06/10/22 Obedience

READING: 1 Kings 15:16-22, 2 Chronicles 16:1-10, 1 Kings 16:1-34, 1 Kings 15:23-24, 2 Chronicles 16:11-17:19, 1 Kings 17:1-7

Drought was upon them. Elijah the Tishbite, who suddenly appears in this story, told Ahab there would be no rain or dew except by God’s command—over against Baal, the Canaanite god believed to be in charge of rain. The true God would command nature, and nature would obey Him. Rain would come when God ordered it.

Just as nature obeyed its Creator, so did the ravens God commanded to provide food for the prophet. In fact, they “kept bringing him bread and meat in the morning and in the evening, and he would drink from the wadi” (1 Kgs 17:6). God ordered, and the created birds obeyed.

The prophet Elijah obeyed, too. God told him to go to a particular wadi to find water in time of drought, and Elijah did just that. Just as the rain and the ravens obeyed their Creator, so did the prophet.

That’s the way we are to live today, too: God speaks, and we obey.

PERSONAL REFLECTION:  What is God requiring of you today?

DAILY PRAYER: “God, I will follow wherever You lead today.”
