It’s one of those simple lines in Scripture packed with truth and applicability, yet it’s also easy to read over them. In this case, it’s one portion of a verse between the prophet Elisha’s confirming that God would (1) send water into the land without wind or rain, and (2) hand Moab over to the Israelites. He would fill the valleys without a storm, and He would defeat the Moabites without difficulty. In fact, that’s the verse that caught my attention today: “This is easy in the Lord’s sight” (2 Kgs 3:18).
It was easy for God to move nature He created and enemy forces over whom He was sovereign. Indeed, I need the reminder today that nothing is too difficult for the Lord (Deut 32:17). If He wants to move mountains, that’s easy. If He chooses to multiply food to feed the thousands, that’s easy, too. If He seeks to glorify Himself by raising the dead, that’s easy. And, if He wants to save rebellious, fleeing sinners, that’s easy for Him. It was costly for Him in the death of His Son, but the Creator-Redeemer provided salvation. Only He could do that.
PERSONAL REFLECTION: In what area of your life do you need to hear the words, “this is a light thing in the sight of the Lord” (ESV)?
DAILY PRAYER: “God, remind me just how powerful You are today.”
