READING: Psalms 92-97
I’m excited today. Rejoicing, even, as I read the Word.
I admit that I’m getting older. Though I’m probably in better shape than I’ve ever been, I still cannot stop the changes age brings. I can’t see at night like I once did. I seldom sleep through the night. According to Pam when I turn the television on, I can’t hear well anymore. I now do what I said I would never do: carry with me a pill case so I can keep all my medicines and supplements right. And, at the risk of giving you too much information, I had a colonoscopy two days ago—not because I’m having problems, but simply because I’m at the age for recommended screenings.
I am getting older, so here’s why today’s reading brings me joy: “The righteous thrive like a palm tree and grow like a cedar tree in Lebanon. Planted in the house of the Lord, they thrive in the courts of our God. They will still bear fruit in old age, healthy and green, to declare, ‘The Lord is just; he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him’” (Psa 92:12-15, emphasis added). You see, age can’t stop me from flourishing in the Lord’s work because the Lord still chooses to show His faithful love through people long planted in His grace. I still get to declare His praises even as I spend my life raising up young pastors to take my place.
I agree with the psalmist that it is only right for me to say today, “It is good to give thanks to the Lord” (Psa 92:1).
PERSONAL REFLECTION: How do you plan to serve the Lord in the days to come?
DAILY PRAYER: “Thank You, Lord, for using us all our lives.”
