READING: Isaiah 40:1-44:5
I love it when the Word of God grabs me through its use of repetition. It’s as if the writer leaps off the page, grabs me by the shoulders, and says, “This is really important. Don’t miss this!” God knows how forgetful we can be, so He drives His point home through repeating words and phrases.
That’s what He does when He reassures the people of Isaiah’s day that God would take care of them: “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with my righteous right hand” (Isa 41:10). This text reminds us that it is His presence with us that makes the difference. He is our God who strengthens us, helps us, and holds on to us. We need not fear anyone or anything when we have this assurance of God’s being with us.
May God help us to hear the words of Isaiah 41:10 whenever we need them throughout this day.
