READING: Luke 1:39-80, Matthew 1:18-25, Luke 2:1-40
I admit that today’s devotion is a bit different. I have read the story of John the Baptist many times, but one text has caught my attention today. The people thought Zechariah and Elizabeth would name their son after his father, but they both affirmed that his name would be John – just as the angel had announced to his father (Luke 1:13). Indeed, Zechariah was stuck silent until these events had been accomplished, and the people marveled as he blessed God.
It’s, then, their response that gives me pause today: “All who heard about him took it to heart, saying, ‘What then will this child become?’ For, indeed, the Lord’s hand was with him” (Luke 1:66). Their question is important to me because I think of little ones I love today, and I wonder how the Lord might use them in years to come. I wonder what little ones like Anya . . . and Jameson . . . and Silas . . . and Theodore . . . and so many others will become in the Lord’s work. Only the Lord knows His plans for them, but I have the privilege of praying for them daily—and watching with anticipation!
PERSONAL REFLECTION: Are you praying for any little ones today?
DAILY PRAYER: “Father, I do pray each of these little ones will follow You fully, regardless of what Your call is on their lives.”
