10/14/22 Timing

READING: John 7:1-9, Luke 9:51-56, Matthew 8:18-22, Luke 9:57-62, John 7:10-8:20

Opposition to Jesus was mounting. The religious leaders were ready to arrest Him. Many grumbled against Him, and some said He had a demon. Even some who seemingly supported Him did not speak publicly about Him because of fear of the Jewish leaders. At the same time, many did believe in Him because of the signs He performed, though we do not know how deep their understanding was at the time.

What we do know, though, is that no opposition could take Jesus down until the Father’s timing was at hand. No one seized Him; no group arrested Him according to only their plans. No one could lay “a hand on him because his hour had not yet come” (John 7:30). The Father is the one who sent the Son—a central theme of John—and He was in charge of the timing. All would happen according to His plan.

He still is in charge of the plan, including in our lives. His timing is always right. Always.
