10/17/22 Instantaneously

READING: Luke 12:35-13:21, John 9:1-41

For eighteen years the woman had been crippled by a spirit. For the equivalent time from our birth to graduation from high school, she could not stand upright. I can only imagine what life might have been like for her. Maybe others unkindly ridiculed her posture. Perhaps she needed help to do any number of things. Even looking straight ahead without discomfort might have been difficult. With each passing day, she may have been more and more defeated by her infirmity.

But . . . then Jesus saw her. There is no indication in this case that she sought His healing. Instead, He called her forth and pronounced her healed. He knew her need without her asking, and He made her well. He freed her from almost two decades of bondage. Instantly, in fact.

I’m grateful today that God can instantaneously free us from the devil’s trap regardless of how long the enemy’s held us down. Sure, we sometimes still deal with the consequences of our past sin, but we can have freedom in Christ right now. Immediately. On the spot. Without delay. Completely, and for eternity.

God is good.

PERSONAL REFLECTION: Have you experienced Christ-given freedom?

DAILY PRAYER: “Thank You, Lord, for freedom in You.”

TOMORROW’S READING: John 10:1-42, Luke 13:22-14:24
