READING: John 13:31-38, Mark 14:27-31, Matthew 26:31-35, Luke 22:31-38, John 14:1-15:17
The disciples had just recently heard Jesus say that one of them would betray Him. If that statement weren’t confusing enough, He later added these ominous words: “All of you will fall away.” In fact, it would happen this night, according to Jesus (Matt 26:31).
Within hours. Before the sun comes up tomorrow.
What they all (not only Peter) said they would not do, they would indeed do. Not surprisingly, the Lord’s prophecy would come true. Tonight.
I cannot help but pause in humility and reverent fear on this Lord’s day. None of us knows what we will face today, and all of us are but one dumb decision away from trouble. The morning could dawn tomorrow on a defeated life, so I am deeply reminded today: only by the grace, indwelling, and power of God will any of us stay faithful to Him this day. I thank God that He holds us in His hand.
PERSONAL REFLECTION: Where are you most vulnerable today in your walk with God?
DAILY PRAYER: “Father, grant me grace to follow You all day and night long.”
