11/04/22 Mocking . . . for a Little While

READING: Mark 15:21-24, Matthew 27:32-34, Luke 23:26-31, John 19:17, Mark 15:25-32, Matthew 27:35-44, Luke 23:32-43, John 19:18-27, Mark 15:33-41, Matthew 27:45-56, Luke 23:44-49, John 19:28-37

  • “Above his head they put up the charge against him in writing: This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.” (Matt 27:37)
  • “Those who passed by were yelling insults at him, shaking their heads, and saying, ‘Ha! The one who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself by coming down from the cross!’”(Mark 15:29-30)
  • “. . . the chief priests with the scribes were mocking him among themselves.” (Mark 15:31)
  • “The soldiers also mocked him.” (Luke 23:36)
  • “In the same way even the criminals who were crucified with him taunted him.” (Matt 27:44)

They mocked Him. They insulted Him. They taunted Him. They crucified Him.

He said, “It is finished,” bowed His head, and gave up His Spirit (John 19:30). It was all over, they must have thought.

But . . . give it a few days.

Death will turn to life. The ridiculed one will be the resurrected one!

PERSONAL REFLECTION: Are you praying for anyone today who might be—intentionally or unintentionally—mocking Jesus?

DAILY PRAYER: “Thank You, Jesus, for enduring the mocking on my behalf.”
