11/25/22 Still Grateful

READING: Romans 5:1-8:17

It’s the day after Thanksgiving, but that hardly means we need not be as grateful today. Today’s reading resounds with reasons to be thankful every day of our lives, including these reasons among others:

  • “since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Rom 5:1)
  • “God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us” (Rom 5:5)
  • “For while we were still helpless, at the right time, Christ died for the ungodly. . . . But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Rom 5:6, 8)
  • “the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rom 6:23)
  • “there is now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus” (Rom 8:1)

We are all wretched people desperately in need of someone to rescue us from our bodies of death – but “thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Rom 7:25) who does indeed rescue us!

PERSONAL REFLECTION: Are you rejoicing in God’s deliverance today?

DAILY PRAYER: “I’m most grateful, Lord, that You died for me while I was a sinner.”

TOMORROW’S READING: Romans 8:18-10:21
