READING: 1 Timothy 6:11-21, Titus 1:1-3:15, 2 Timothy 1:1-18
I can’t speak personally about having a Christian upbringing, but I have pastored folks who could. I have also worked with students who could talk of parents and grandparents who modeled faith for them. Just today, in fact, an older student in my class spoke of his maternal grandmother and her great love for God’s Word. His memories were from decades ago, but still he remembers godliness in his heritage.
I have also had the privilege of pastoring grandparents and parents who walked faithfully with God and led their next generations to do the same. Few things are more exciting than hearing Christian offspring speak of believing parents and grandparents they dearly love. Perhaps young Timothy spoke this way of his grandmother, Lois, and his mother, Eunice. What we do know from today’s reading is that Paul was aware of their faith, and he knew they were influential in Timothy’s faith. They made a spiritual difference in his life.
May you and I follow God so clearly and fully that those who come after us follow Him, too—and may we be creating Christian memories for them today!
PERSONAL REFLECTION: Have you been blessed with Christian parents and grandparents? If so, thank the Lord.
DAILY PRAYER: “God, I pray the next generations will see genuine faith in my life.”
TOMORROW’S READING: 2 Timothy 2:1-4:18
