I wish every person could only celebrate during the holidays, but I know that’s not the case. For some, tears that have become the norm only increase at this time of year. If that’s where you are – or where someone you love is – I pray one of these verses comforts you this holiday season:
- “This is what the Lord God of your ancestor David says: ‘I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears.’” (2 Kings 20:5)
- “I am weary from my groaning; with my tears I dampen my bed and drench my couch every night. My eyes are swollen from grief; . . . the Lord has heard the sound of my weeping.” (Psalm 6:6-9)
- “Weeping may stay overnight, but there is joy in the morning.” (Psalm 30:5)
- “You yourself have recorded my wanderings. Put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book? Then my enemies will retreat on the day when I call. This I know: God is for me.” (Psalm 56:8-9)
- “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” (Matthew 5:4)
- “Jesus wept.” (John 11:35)
- “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; grief, crying, and pain will be no more, because the previous things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:4)
May the Lord who is with us grant you His presence and power if these are hard days for you.
