12/28/22 Victory in the Lamb

READING: Revelation 6:1-10:11

My missions heart both grieves and rejoices when I read the words of Revelation 7:9—“a vast multitude from every nation, tribe, people, and language, which no one could number, standing before the throne and before the Lamb.” On one hand, I grieve because so many people (billions, actually) are not yet among that number. Indeed, we do and support missions because we long for people to know the Lamb. On the other hand, I rejoice because of the Lord’s victory and grace evident in the rest of this story.

The redeemed multitude in these texts have come through suffering and tribulation, having had their robes washed in the blood of the Lamb. Take some time now just to meditate on the picture of gracious victory in these verses (Rev 7:15-17):

  • the one seated on the throne will shelter them
  • they will no longer hunger
  • they will no longer thirst
  • the sun will no longer strike them, nor will any scorching heat
  • the Lamb who is at the center of the throne will shepherd them; he will guide them to springs of the waters of life
  • God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.

Let these blessings sink in, and bow humbly before the Lamb today. Amen.

PERSONAL REFLECTION: How much do you let the promise of eternal victory influence your life each day?

DAILY PRAYER: “God, I praise You for the promise of eternity with You, and I look forward to that day.”

 TOMORROW’S READING:  Revelation 11:1-14:20
