01/03/22 A Pleasing Sacrifice

READING: Genesis 6-10

After the time of his family’s floating on the prophesied flood waters, the first thing Noah did when disembarking from the ark was to build an altar and offer burnt offerings to God. Noah recognized God’s authority, did everything God commanded him to do (though Noah was not perfect), and knew that worshipping God as soon as he hit the ground was the right move.

In response, God was pleased with the aroma of Noah’s sacrifices. God had seen the pervasive wickedness of the earth that necessitated judgment, but now He also recognized the sacrifices of a man who had been obedient to Him. Even today, the evidence of a rainbow is a reminder to us that this God is a gracious, patient, forgiving, word-honoring God.

Our response today? It is to “continually offer up to God a sacrifice of praise, that is, the fruit of lips that confess his name” (Heb 13:15). One way we can do that today is to offer Him prayers of adoration throughout the day. He is indeed worthy.

PERSONAL REFLECTION: Are you willing to spend the day offering ongoing prayers of praise?

DAILY PRAYER: “God, You are worthy. I offer You today a sacrifice of praise.”

TOMORROW’S READING: Genesis 11-16
