01/10/22 Just a Few Days

READING: Genesis 28-30

Pam and I have been married for almost 32 years. While I can’t remember all the details of our wedding (and nobody we know still has a VCR to watch the tape of the event . . .), I do remember our worship leader and his wife singing during the service, “Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us.” Looking back across more than three decades, I can say with confidence that God has led us – and it seems like just yesterday we started this journey together.

I think of that testimony today as I read about Jacob’s working to take Rachel as his wife. He agreed to serve Laban seven years for his daughter’s hand in marriage. That seems like a long time to me, but those days “seemed like only a few days to him because of his love for her” (Gen 29:20).  Even after Laban deceived him, Jacob was willing to work an additional seven years because he loved Rachel so much.

The love God extends to us and we extend to others is just that way, you know: it makes hard times better, far distances shorter, and long times briefer.

PERSONAL REFLECTION: Who in your life needs to know how much you love them today?

DAILY PRAYER: “I praise You, Father, for love than endures.”

TOMORROW’S READING: Genesis 31-34
