02/13/23 God Taking Up Residence

READING: Leviticus 26-27, Numbers 1

Today’s one of those days when I read the Word and can only meditate in wonder at who God is and what He does.

God warned His people not to make worthless idols, set up carved images, or bow before any sculpted stones. After all, He alone is the Lord, as we’ve read so many times in the book of Leviticus. He’s even more than that, though. Not only is He the Lord, the one who provides all things for His people, but He is also the one who—and this is the point that most amazes me today—takes up residence among us, walks among us, and chooses to be our God. I know that truth, but it has stuck home strongly today for some reason.

Our God is not a distant God who created us and keeps His distance. He does not leave us to fend for things on our own. No, He is personal and present. He is Immanuel, God with us.

He is God with you and me. That’s incredible.

PERSONAL REFLECTION: Do you most obey or disobey God these days?

DAILY PRAYER: “God, I want You to be pleased with my life today. Help me.”

TOMORROW’S READING: Numbers 2-3
