READING:Numbers 21-23
If you know me well at all, you probably know I’m not very patient. I can be impulsive and hasty. For that reason, I need to listen carefully to today’s reading.
Because of the opposition of Edom, Moses directed God’s people back toward the Red Sea on their journey to the Promised Land. That route surely seemed out of the way, and the people grew impatient—so impatient, in fact, that they spoke against Moses and God. Once again, they complained about God’s provisions for them. The result of their impatience and their rebellion was God’s judgment of poisonous snakes. Only the intercession of Moses led them to God’s solution for repentance and forgiveness.
Our own impatience may not lead to such a unique result, but it can certainly bring unexpected trouble. Patiently trusting God, even when the route He directs us to makes little sense to us—is a must.
PERSONAL REFLECTION: Have you suffered consequences of impatience?
DAILY PRAYER: “God, grant me grace to trust You, Your direction, and Your timing.”
