03/27/23 Making Himself Known

READING: Judges 11-14

Once again today, I’m struck by God’s willingness to make Himself known to us. I have been in places in the world where people go to shamans or witch doctors to determine what their “god” wants. I’ve talked with people who offer sacrifices to “gods” in hopes they will learn something about their present or their future. I’ve also seen others who worship man-made gods who cannot hear them or speak to them.

It’s all painful to see, actually, because I know the God of the Bible. He’s a God who wants a relationship with us, and He communicates with us. Indeed, the Bible describes His taking the initiative to come to us while we were yet sinners—and He still speaks to us through His Word and His Spirit.

In today’s text, He reveals, through an angelic visit, His plan for Manoah and his wife to have a child. That visitation was unique—and we cannot expect God to communicate with us in this way—but it still reveals God’s willingness to speak to us. He’s a good God who wants us to know Him and hear from Him.

PERSONAL REFLECTION: Are you seeking God through His Word today? Trust Him to speak to you.

DAILY PRAYER: “Speak, Lord, for I am listening.”

TOMORROW’S READING: Judges 15-18
