READING: 1 Samuel 1-4
Sometimes the scriptures give us opportunity to eavesdrop on the heartfelt, gut-wrenching prayer of a God-follower. We read almost in silence, not wanting to intrude on a solemn moment. Today’s text is one of those readings.
The one praying is Hannah, the wife of Elkanah. She had been barren for some time, and now she was “a woman with a broken heart” (1 Sam 1:15). She knew she was only the servant of the Lord, but she also knew she could take her grief to Him through prayer. She poured out her heart—from the depth of her being—to the only One who could fix her barrenness. God did indeed grant her that child.
Today, our God wants us to bring our burdens to Him. He wants us to pour out our heart to Him. He can handle whatever we bring to His throne.
PERSONAL REFLECTION: Are you carrying a heavy burden today? Take it to the Lord.
DAILY PRAYER: “God, hear me today.”
MONDAY’S READING: 1 Samuel 5-9
