READING: 2 Samuel 22-24
My rock. My fortress. My deliverer. My refuge. My shield. My stronghold. My Savior. My God. My rescuer. My support. My rewarder. My lamp. My salvation.
You get the sense that the psalmist could continue piling up the phrases without exhausting all that God is to His children. He is a personal God who intervenes in our lives to guide us. As one writer summarized about the psalmist’s life, God is “a very personal helper, a living resource whose interventions in the king’s life have consistently spelled the difference between life and death.”*
How grateful I am today that God stepped into my life when I was 13 years old to draw me to Himself! And, I’m thankful I can recognize Him today as “my God.” Like David, why would I ever want to offer to Him that which costs me nothing?
PERSONAL REFLECTION: What words would you use to describe God?
DAILY PRAYER: “I call to You today, Lord, knowing You are my God.”
