READING: 1 Chronicles 6-9
I love to sing. I don’t claim to be good at it, but I enjoy getting alone and worshiping the Lord through singing. Sometimes I sing old hymns that have become increasingly important to me as I get older. At other times, I sing praise choruses that so often come directly from the Scriptures. In some cases, though, I simply listen to instrumental music and let the lyrics bounce in my head as I focus on the Lord. Indeed, I’m listening to “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” in the background as I write this devotion today.
So, once again amid lists of names in today’s reading, I paused when I read these words: “These are the men David put in charge of the music in the Lord’s temple after the ark came to rest there. They ministered with song in front of the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, until Solomon built the Lord’s temple in Jerusalem, and they performed their task according to the regulations given to them” (1 Chron 6:31-32). David appointed these men to honor the Lord and minister to people through song, and I can just hear them singing psalms in the open air. I can see their eyes light up as they sing—and I pray my eyes glow with God’s grace, too, when I sing. Even though I don’t often sing publicly, still I pray others will hear my voice of praise.
PERSONAL REFLECTION: Are you singing today?
DAILY PRAYER: “God, I pray You hear my voice with joy as I sing today.”
