06/26/23 Sweeter than Honey

READING: Psalms 18-26

Here’s one of the reasons I write these devotions everyday: the Word of God is powerful, and I want to focus on it. The psalmist, after seeing God’s glory in the general revelation of creation, pointed out this same point about God’s Word. Note below (1) the words he used to describe God’s Word, and (2) the phrases he used to describe what God’s Word does:

The instruction of the Lord is perfectrenewing one’s life; the testimony of the Lord is trustworthy, making the inexperienced wise.

The precepts of the Lord are rightmaking the heart glad; the command of the Lord is radiantmaking the eyes light up.

The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever; the ordinances of the Lord are reliable and altogether righteous.

They are more desirable than gold—than an abundance of pure gold; and sweeter than honey dripping from a honeycomb. (Psa 19:7-10)

The scriptures are life-changing. Indeed, they warn us of the consequences of not following God, and they guide us toward great reward if we follow them. The question we must ask today is this: “Is the Word of God more important to me than wealth, and is it sweeter to me than honey going down my throat?”

PERSONAL REFLECTION: How do you answer these questions?

DAILY PRAYER: “God, give me great love for Your Word.”
