06/28/23 Priceless Love

READING: Psalms 36-44

The older I get, the more I realize that some things I once thought were so important never really were. . . . like position, power, possessions, prestige, and popularity. They’re fleeting, and they’re ultimately unsatisfying. You can achieve all of them and still feel unloved; you can gain them all and still die with none of them.

What truly is important—precious and rare, in fact—is the priceless, steadfast love of God for us. It reaches to the heavens, and few words can capture its value. It is faithful, amazing, right, protective. It is sacrificial and undying. In the words of one writer describing the psalmist’s use of images in Psalm 36, “The psalmist uses the immensity of the creation to describe God’s unfailing love. The vastness of the heavens, the heights of the mountains, and the depths of the oceans provide beautiful word pictures to help us begin to grasp just how immense God’s unfailing love and other attributes are.”*

Somehow, the God of mammoth love applies that love personally to us—and that’s amazingly loving in itself. Priceless, in fact.

PERSONAL REFLECTION: What really is most important to you today?

DAILY PRAYER: “God, I praise You for Your priceless love.”

TOMORROW’S READING: Psalms 45-55
