READING: Psalms 94-104
Today’s one of those days when I read scriptures I’ve read many times before, but they so capture my attention it feels like I’m reading them for the first time. In Psalm 94, it appears at first that the wicked are succeeding in their plans. They celebrate their wickedness, and they assert they will get away with their actions because “The Lord doesn’t see it. The God of Jacob doesn’t pay attention” (Psa 94:7).
The psalmist’s response was a series of rhetorical questions that are so simple they’re halting: “Can the one who shaped the ear not hear, the one who formed the eye not see?” (Psa 97:9). God made the ear—so surely He can hear whatever is going on. He likewise made the eye—and the Creator of the eye most assuredly can see, too. By virtue of His position as all-powerful Creator, God hears all things and sees all things. Nobody who thinks “the Lord doesn’t see it” gets it right.
PERSONAL REFLECTION: Do you ever make bad choices based on the wrong idea that the Lord doesn’t see it?
DAILY PRAYER: “You are mighty, Lord. Help me.”
