READING: Psalms 105-112
The repetition of the rebellion of God’s people is almost hard to believe. Look at these pictures in Psalm 106:
- “Both we and our ancestors have sinned; we have done wrong and have acted wickedly. Our ancestors in Egypt did not grasp the significance of your wondrous works or remember your many acts of faithful love. instead, they rebelled by the sea—the Red Sea.” (Psa 106:6-7)
- “They soon forgot his works and would not wait for his counsel.” (Psa 106:13)
- “At Horeb they made a calf and worshiped the cast metal image.” (Psa 106:19)
- “He rescued them many times, but they continued to rebel deliberately and were beaten down by their iniquity.” (Psa 106:43)
I could add other examples of their rebellion, but that’s not the point of this devotion. Rather, here is something even more amazing: God loved them and kept His covenant with them anyway: “When he heard their cry, he took note of their distress, remembered his covenant with them, and relented according to the abundance of his faithful love” (Psa 106:44-45).
It’s that same gracious, patient, disciplining, guiding, undying love that gives hope to you and me today.
