READING: Isaiah 37-40
It’s quite a picture that speaks volumes. King Sennacherib was worshiping his “god” in the temple when some of his sons took his life. They assassinated him while, apparently, the god of the king was nearby.
The king had gone there to worship a god who could not protect him. In fact, he went there to worship a god who had no life. He went there to worship a god who was no god at all.
Hezekiah, on the other hand, had gone to the Temple of his God—and there he encountered the true God through prayer. He is the God who keeps His word, who dwells among His people, and who accomplishes His plan. The comparison of the two stories of Hezekiah and Sennacherib is a reminder that there is only one true, all-powerful, patient God. One path brings death, but the other brings life. Thank God today that you know Him when so many people around the world “know” only false gods who have nothing to offer them.
PERSONAL REFLECTION: How often do you express gratitude to God for your relationship with Him?
PRAYER: “God, I praise You for who You are.”
