09/01/23 I Am the Lord

READING: Ezekiel 5-9

Today’s reading is marked by God’s judgment on His people. At the same time, though, it’s a reminder that God uses even judgment to make His name known among the nations. Note these repetitive phrases that occur more than 60 times, in fact, In the book of Ezekiel:

  • “you will know that I am the Lord” (Eze 6:7)
  • “And they will know that I am the Lord” (Eze 6:10)
  • “You will all know that I am the Lord” (Eze 6:13)
  • “Then they will know that I am the Lord” (Eze 6:14)
  • “Then you will know that I am the Lord” (Eze 7:4)
  • “Then they will know that I am the Lord” (Eze 7:27)

Idols are not the Lord. False gods are not the Lord. Kings are not the Lord. Only the God of the Bible—the One who righteously carries out judgment—is the Lord. It is to Him we must answer.

PERSONAL REFLECTION: How much does the Lordship of Christ mean in your life?

PRAYER: “I know that You are the Lord. Amen.”
